Sin City has proven once again a true commitment to the endless holiday vacation experience. If New Year’s isn’t enough for you, stick around the strip through January 2nd for Deadmau5 Day. That’s right, Deadmau5 Day. Carolyn Goodman, mayor of Las Vegas, has made an official declaration that this day be a holiday in honor of the big cheese himself and the kick off to his year-long residency at Encore’s XS Lounge. Joel Zimmerman will celebrate his actual birthday January 5th, but the city is welcoming him in a fashion reserved for very few icons in history – an official holiday. Recently nominated for 3 Grammy awards, his LP “4×4=12” – peaking at #47 on the Billboard 200 and that has reportedly sold 243,000 copies – was nominated in the best Dance/Electronica Album category and “Raise Your Weapon” is recognized for Best Dance Recording. His remix of Foo Fighters’ “Rope” brings in his third nomination in the Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical category. Jesse Waits (co-owner of Tryst and XS Loung) explained, “The following for Deadmau5 is phenomenal, and I applaud Mayor Goodman for recognizing both his remarkable persona alongside his ability to drive visitor traffic from fans traveling across the globe to experience his live sets.” Whether or not you love his music, his impact is undeniable. Being that many businesses are still closed today, it’s only fitting that we all continue celebrating! So, cheers!.. to Deadmau5 Day!
